James Carney BA(Hons) Arch, Dip Arch ARB RIBA

James studied at Portsmouth University, School of Architecture where he completed both his architectural degree and diploma (with distinction). He gained his professional qualifications in 2001 at the University of Westminster receiving a commendation in his Part 3.

James started his architectural career in London working for Skidmore Owings and Merrill from 2001-2006. During these early years he worked on numerous large scale, high profile projects including Pier D at Dublin Airport, public space enhancements at Broadgate and large scale residential projects in London and Lisbon. It was during the public enhancement projects that James and a colleague won an in-house design competition for the award winning public space at Finsbury Avenue Square.

Following these formative years in a large London practice, James left to join a small practice closer to home at BTH Consulting in Kent where he worked on a wide range of residential, educational and commercial projects from 2006-2015. 

With over 20 years of experience in the RIBA  and architectural profession James has a very broad knowledge of a variety of practice sizes which included a very diverse portfolio of project types and scales.

All architecture great and small.

James Carney Architects was established by James Carney in 2015 after the restructuring of the former practice BTH Consulting.
