Our towns and villages of yesteryear
At JCA we are extremely lucky to be located within a lovely village surrounded by the Kent countryside and other adjacent villages. We are also located nearby to the town of Dartford, 18 miles south-east of Central London. Some of the local areas, especially Darent, can be traced back to Roman times playing a key part when establishing new travel routes including the road from Dover to London.
The industrial revolution
In more recent times, during the 18th and 19th centuries, Dartford and its surrounding areas developed into the industrial base with some key factories built in this area, some of which still exist to this day.
Local postcards from the 1900s
Therefore, when we came across a local historian on Facebook who diligently publishes hundreds of postcard images of the local areas from around 1900 we felt compelled to do something with these. Rather than admiring these images for their nostalgic value how about creating a ‘then and now’ photograph of the same image from the same viewpoint to show how our local towns and villages have changed over a 100 year period.
Published in the Dartford Living Magazine
On that basis we set about collating a set of old images of our local towns and villages and then going out to photograph the comparative photograph of nowaday. We initially published to local Facebook groups only and such was the interest that we now have a monthly feature in the Dartford Living Magazine.
If you would like to see more of these then please visit our Facebook or Instagram pages through the links above where we publish every photograph taken.
