Refectory Building
A new first floor extension to the refectory building at Reigate Sixth Form College.
The brief for this project was to extend the existing single storey refectory building upwards by adding an entire first floor level. This significantly increased the floor area of the refectory building to accommodate growing student numbers.
This project was a 2 phase development. The building would then be subdivided to provide a two storey refectory and a two storey independent learning centre (ILC), each with their own entrances and internal circulation.
As the servery, dining and seating facilities for the Refectory at Reigate College needed to be kept operational throughout, the overall project had to be phased in two main parts, allowing the ILC to be built and completed in Phase 1 and the refectory in Phase 2.
The ILC was completed during 2022 with the first floor occupied from the start of the new academic year (2022-2023). The ground floor was utilised as a temporary seating area to serve the refectory whilst Phase 2 works were carried out in this area
